A dinner reservation is easy to picture; a sailboat leaving from the Gateway of India is a little more unfamiliar. Here's how to plan one properly, from timing to decor to the small details that make it feel personal.

Start With The Time Of Day

Most anniversary sails go one of two ways: a golden sunset slot, or a quieter mid-morning charter. Sunset is the popular choice — the light does a lot of the emotional heavy lifting, and it naturally builds toward a quiet, romantic close. Mornings suit couples who'd rather have the harbour calm and near-empty, with clearer photos and a cooler breeze. Neither is "more special" — it really comes down to whether you want drama or calm.

Decide How Much Decor You Actually Want

We can dress the boat as much or as little as you'd like:

  • Understated: a small floral arrangement at the bow and nothing else — lets the view do the talking.
  • Classic: our most-requested setup — flowers along the railing, a "Happy Anniversary" balloon banner, and heart-shaped cushions or balloons on deck.
  • Full celebration: the above, plus a cake table, champagne glasses, fairy lights for evening sails, and a speaker for your own playlist.

Food, Drinks & Music

Boats don't have a kitchen onboard, so catering is usually simple by design: a cake, some snacks, and drinks you bring along or we arrange in advance. Most onboard speakers connect over Bluetooth, so your own playlist is the easiest way to set the mood. If you'd like a specific spread — a charcuterie box, a particular cake flavour, sparkling juice instead of champagne — mention it when you book and we'll help arrange it.

What To Wear

Sailboats move, and decks can be slightly damp near the edges — flowing outfits and heels are lovely for photos but tricky underfoot. Most couples change on deck for photos and wear flats or barefoot for the actual sail. A light layer is worth carrying for sunset charters, since the breeze picks up once the sun starts to dip.
